Our Machines:
Are Bol-Mor Pinsetters type C/D's. They were installed somewhere around 1954 and haven't been replaced since. Every summer we do major work on the bowling machines to keep them running in tip top condition. Much like a classic muscle car, you have to keep tweaking it every so often or else it will break down. Also similar to a classic muscle car, there are many modifications available to make the machine run more smoothly and more efficiently. We have installed quite a few modifications on our pinsetters here at the Bowlaway.
How it works:
When you push the button, the pins are swept back into the Machine and onto a big turntable. This sorts the pins to one side and the balls to the other. The pins go up a ladder type lift on one side and the balls go up a similar smaller lift on the other side. The balls get dumped out onto a ramp where they simply roll all the way down and back to the bowler. The pins are brought across a rack along the top of the machine, and then get pushed out of the rack and onto conveyors along the top of the machine. The conveyors bring the pins down to the tubes. The tubes are the part of the machine that lower the new rack of pins to the lane for the bowler. This is a continuous cycle that keeps going while you are bowling, so that the machine is ready with a new set of pins when you push the button.
