During the summer of 2002 we had the first 12 feet of the lanes replaced with synthetic lane fronts. We bought the 12 foot sections from the Wal-lex (now closed), and had them installed by J.E. Corp. In order to do this they had to use diamond saw blades to cut through the really hard wood that is used for bowling lanes, once they removed the twelve foot sections they replaced them with the new synthetic wood sections.

Waiting for new lane sections, everythings covered with plastic!

New lane sections

If you look in the picture on the left above you'll see how we had to cover up all of the Cosmic lights and cover the machine area with plastic to keep all of the saw dust out.

The picture on the right shows the synthetic lane sections waiting to be installed. They are much like a lenolium and particle board sandwich, and they are made using extremely high pressure to make the lane sections hard and durable. The advantage to synthetic lane fronts is that they don't splinter or chip at all unlike real wood lanes.
